2025-2026 Hawaiʻi Time Standards ***UPDATED 09-27-2025***
Official 14U Championship Standard (SCY)
This is the qualifying standard used for 14 & Under swimmers entering Age Group Champs.
Senior Swimmers (15–18)
15–18 swimmers will use the Senior A & B Time Standards to qualify for Senior Champs or JAG Champs.
Hawaiʻi SCY, LCM & SCM Time Standards — Used for Meet Qualification
These time standards are the official benchmarks used throughout the year for qualification into ABC meets, A+ meets, and invitational meets across Hawaiʻi.
How the New Hawaiʻi Time Standards Affects Swimmers:
1. Age Group focus
Hawaii Swimming now centers the Age Group system around 14&U:
- SCY (short course yards) Champs: single-age championships for 10u, 11, 12, 13, and 14.
- LCM (long course meters) Champs: mixed-age groups: 10u, 11–12, 13–14, rather than single-age divisions.
2. What happens with 15–18 swimmers
15–18 swimmers do not compete in single-age Age Group championships. Instead:
- They compete in Senior-level championships (and are also eligible to swim in Junior Age Group Championships, JAGS in Feb/March).
- Qualifying times for 15–18 are determined by combining:
- Senior “A” (SR-A) standards, and
- The 14&U LCM mixed-age standards (10u / 11–12 / 13–14), adjusted per LSC guidance.
3. How "A", "B", and "Invitational" work for 15–18
Hawaii applies the same meet level structure (Champ, Invitational, A, B) for 15–18 as for 14&U, but the source of the time cuts differs:
- Some cuts use the LCM 14&U mixed-age standards as a baseline.
- Other cuts use Senior “A” standards and may include an adjustment (LSC guidance has referenced a 10% rule in some contexts).
- Practically: a 15–18 swimmer will look at either a slightly more lenient Senior/A standard or an adjusted 14&U standard depending on the meet level.
4. SCY Champs for 15–18
There are dedicated Senior Champs meets for 15–18 swimmers. Qualification times for those meets are derived from the adjusted standards described above (Senior and adjusted 14&U standards).
5. Other small adjustments
- For SCY Age Group Champs, the published times for 12 and 14 are used for the 11–12 and 13–14 pairs respectively.
- The younger age within a pair (11 and 13) is commonly set about 5% slower than the older age (12 and 14) to balance fairness and participation.
